Rockstar Games has finally announced that Grand Theft Auto V is expected to launch worldwide for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 17, 2013. The September release date moves the launch back from its original projected release window of spring 2013 in order to allow additional development time. The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world Rockstar Games has yet created, Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.
So while most of us want GTA V to release like yesterday, the truth is that we all know this is probably the best thing that could happen to the game. Grand Theft Auto games are always massive, they have a degree of depth and complexity that few games if any can match. With the slip in release date, this more than likely means that Grand Theft Auto V will be the swan song game of this console generation. With all that weight on them, it’s no surprise that Rockstar chose to slip the release date back a few months. I’ve always respected Rockstar, not only because they make high quality games, but because while they listen to their fans, they don’t cave to them. Even though they are sitting on what will mostly likely be the biggest game of the year, they aren’t going to rush it out of the door too soon and they aren’t putting on platforms that won’t deliver the most high quality experience (sorry Wii U).
Between now and when the game drops in September I’m sure we’ll find out tons more about the game and be treated to many more screenshots and trailers to further build our anticipation. So while most of us won’t like the wait, I think we all know that it will definitely be worth it.
