For those people following Disney’s attempted take-over of the world (or at least the parts of it associated with having fun), the news of their forthcoming video game Infinity will come as no surprise. What may be surprising however is that Disney intends Infinity to be more than a simple game, but more like a play set, akin to Skylanders. The title was announced in a glitzy Hollywood event this week.
The title is being developed by Avalanche Software, responsible for previous Disney titles like Cars 2 and Toy Story 3. The first three play sets, which come as a set of toys to interact with the game, will be based on Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters Inc and The Incredibles. The game uses scenarios specific to each play set, for example the Pirates play set enables the player to build and captain their own pirate ship. There will also be a full open world to explore called Toy Box, which seemingly operates on a level similar to a simplified Little Big Planet.
Disney Infinity will launch in June on pretty much every major format. In the US the Starter Pack will cost $74.99 with each play set coming in at $34.99, a similar pricing structure to Skylanders. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
