Now that the great gaming year that was 2012 is firmly behind us, its time to look forward to the future. As we see it that means this year is pretty firmly chopped in half. The first six months brings us potentially some of the best games of this generation, including GTA V, The Last of Us and Bioshock: Infinite. Then we hit E3 in June, and the whole world is expected to go crazy for the next gaming generation…
Or that may not be the case. Although it seems likely that both Sony and Microsoft will formally announce their new consoles at E3 (and the official Xbox site is counting down to the conference already), there have lately been rumors that either one or both could be organizing a separate event a few weeks beforehand. The latest rumor comes courtesy of the VP of Sony Home Entertainment, who had the following to say when questioned about the PS4 launch plans by a Chilean news site.
“That’s still a big secret, but our friends at Sony PlayStation are getting prepared. For now, I can only say that we’re focused in the gaming event E3, set for this June. This announcement may be then, or possibly earlier in May… We expect [Sony] to deliver great news, but we must wait until May at least.”
Of course this is anything other than concrete news, but it looks like Sony may well be at least considering a specific launch event for the Orbis, or whatever the system ends up being called.
