Over the last week or so, a lot of the gaming world’s biggest first and second party studios have been wishing everyone a happy festive period from the cozy warmth of the Official PlayStation Blog’s fireside. Whilst the majority of these have just been a nice move on the part of the developer, a few have caused some yuletide twitterings and general rumor discussion.
Killzone creators Guerrilla Games for example posted a lovely Christmas card which you can see above, which mixes the iconic image of a Helghast soldiers mask with some traditional Christmas tree baubles. Ah, lovely. As well as this festive picture however, they also made the following comment; “2013 is gearing up to be another big year for Guerrilla — quite possibly the biggest since we released the original Killzone way back in 2004. We’ll have more details for you at a future date, but until then we hope you share a wonderful holiday with your loved ones, and we’ll see you in 2013.”
Now we all know that the Vita will be seeing a Killzone game in 2013, Killzone: Mercenaries which was announced earlier this year. Would that alone be enough to call next year the biggest since the release of the original Killzone? Probably not – particularly as the core Killzone team based at the studios headquarters in Amsterdam aren’t actually making the handheld version. Bearing all that in mind, it seems likely that Killzone 4 is in development and will be announced this year, potentially as a launch title alongside PS4/Orbis. Excited yet? Expect more on this story in the new year folks.
