The Grand Theft Auto series is known for more than its great story direction and explosive gameplay, it’s also famous for its expansive maps, giving you freedom certain games just can’t.
Over the years these expansive maps have only grew bigger, with Rockstar Games stating not long ago that Grand Theft Auto V’s map is bigger than Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV’s Liberty City combined.
The developer doesn’t wish to stop there however, with Rockstar’s Leslie Benzies wanting to take things to an even higher level and release a game with every Grand Theft Auto city included, making for one quite gigantic map.
“Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities,” Benzies told Digital Trends, “and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting”.
If this was to develop, you can see how it may have problems, but certainly would be something fans of the series would buy into. With Grand Theft Auto V using three playable characters in its storyline, this may be an approach Rockstar could use if they decide to go ahead with the idea down the line.
