For people that care about such things, the news that Far Cry 3 will not support dedicated servers will come as a … bit of a blow. The game is due for release on PC and console on December 4th, and the information comes courtesy of the official Ubisoft developer forums.
When asked if the PC version would support dedicated servers, the community manager named MSV-Vextor replied, “The online experience does not support dedicated servers.” This is bad news for PC gamers hoping for a more robust and technically impressive multipayer mode following on from the rather disappointing Far Cry 2, which also didn’t support dedicated servers.
The dedicated server system avoids any potential pitfalls caused by using peer to peer servers, where your gaming conditions online could be influenced by a fellow player with a bad connection, or downloading something in the background for example.
Is this something that bothers any of you PC gamers. More importantly, will it affect your decision on whether to buy Far Cry 3?
