To my shame, although I am currently studying history at the Undergraduate level, I had never heard of Benedict Arnold until I heard all about the exclusive DLC for Assassin’s Creed III on the PS3 that is due to be released following the game’s launch.
We have already heard about the ‘King George Washington’ DLC missions which will be available to all, but whilst those missions will be based in a fantasy ‘what if?’ historical scenario, the PS3 exclusive DLC will be as close to historical fact as Assassin’s Creed has ever been.
The official PlayStation blog has posted an interview with the script writer for the extra content, who detailed exactly how accurate these scenes will be. “We have some scenes that have the actual words spoken by key players in the events at West Point, according to the records from the court proceedings following what happened. On the other side of things,” says Turner, “we needed to inject it with some gameplay so there are some liberties in terms of the action. But who was there, what they did, and what happened to them is as precise as the history books would allow.”
Of course I’m sure you guys reading in the US have covered this period of history in great detail as part of your studies, but for those outside North America, the DLC regarding the traitorous Arnold and his role in the American War of Independence should be educational as well as entertaining.
