The guys at Criterion Games are more than busy at the moment, preparing for all the important post-launch tasks which will come their way after racer Need For Speed: Most Wanted hits shelves at the end of the month. What does the studio have on the cards for the future though? According to The Guardian, we might see a return to the famed Burnout series somewhere down the line, or even a Road Rash remake.
Development executive at Criterion’s Guildford studio Craig Sullivan, spoke to The Guardian recently and said, “there’s still a lot we want to do with driving and we will make another Burnout game at some point”.
He continued, “Obviously, as we’re working on NFS we’re thinking of really good ideas that aren’t right for this series; there are ideas that we’re going to explore with Burnout.”
When asked about the possibility of returning to other racing classics, Sullivan mentioned fan favorite Road Rash, “When we did Burnout Paradise we did some motorbike DLC and now everyone thinks that we’re going to do a Road Rash game at some point. I had a lot of fun playing that game, we think bikes are fun. We might make a Road Rash game…But we might make a game without vehicles in it. I mean, we made Black, I was the lead designer – we might make a game about blowing the crap out of each other.”
Road Rash was a starting point for many racing game fans and would be a welcomed remake, though it’s not set in stone, Sullivan did give us a bit of hope by saying, “Road Rash seems like a good fit for Criterion.” Only time will tell if it will materialize.
