2K Sports has revealed franchise record-setting sales of NBA 2K13. In its first week of sales, NBA 2K13 sold-through 49 percent more copies than the franchise’s previous fastest-seller, NBA 2K11. They also reported a 66 percent increase in international sales as compared with NBA 2K11. The number of online users has more than doubled from last year’s NBA 2K12. In addition, the number of played online games has also grown exponentially, as NBA 2K13 has experienced a 127 percent increase over last year’s totals.
Personally, I’m not surprised but there are some interesting things to take from this. 2K Sports doesn’t mention any real numbers, only percentages but maybe that’s just because they want to be sure before they release numbers that will be analyzed and quoted a million times over. You’ll notice that most numbers are compared to NBA 2K11 and not NBA 2K12, because while sales of NBA 2K12 were solid, NBA 2K11 ended up selling more than 4 million copies. So far, NBA 2K13 is seems on pace to surpass that which would be very impressive. So far, I think that NBA 2K13 is highly superior to NBA 2K12, though I’m not quite ready to call it better than NBA 2K11 which we called the greatest sports video game ever made when we reviewed it a few years ago.
So far I like what they are doing with MyCareer mode though I don’t like how they delve out Virtual Currency, they give much too little considering them number of things its used for. MyTeam mode is another winner and well on its way to becoming my latest addiction.
