Despite previous rumors to the contrary, the dreaded Microsoft Points system isn’t going away for Xbox 360 users, at least not right now. It was originally believed that MSP’s would be phased out in the next Xbox dashboard update, due out at the end of the month. It wasn’t far-fetched either with Microsoft having already phased out MS points for Windows, with Windows 8 offering music and video downloads for real money, rather than the rather confusing points system, which always left the end-users with spare currency they couldn’t do anything with, as they had to be purchased in bundles.
For now however, Microsoft have confirmed that the MS points system will remain in place for Xbox 360 purchases, saying “Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console.” Surely it can’t be long before the Xbox 360 will default to local currency for purchases and the next dashboard update would seem like the ideal time for such a move.
