It seems the Resident Evil franchise has gone from strength to strength following the release of Resident Evil 6 recently. The newest installment in the zombie horror series released to the public on October 2nd to mixed reviews from critics, however it didn’t stop the 4.5 million copies that shipped from Capcom’s production line, breaking previously set shipping records. To keep this in context though, this is units shipped, not sold, so it’s a bit different from the amazing success of FIFA 13 but impressive none the less.
The publisher previously forecasted Resident Evil 6 to sell in the region of 7 million copies by March 31, 2013, which it looks like it may just do. That would make it one of Capcom’s best-selling games, ahead of Resident Evil 5 which sold 5.8 million copies and Street Fighter II, which sold 6.3 million.
The milestone couldn’t come at a better time after a day-one patch made the game unplayable for those who purchased the title on the PlayStation Store. Let just hope that gamers don’t meet any more problems down the line.
