The gaming industry today is more than ever, with many developers trying the same thing as each other to get a piece of the market pie. What made the Left 4 Dead series so successful was its uniqueness. To bring home just how successful the series has been since its incarnation back in 2008, the zombie franchise has sold in excess of 12 million copies, this according to Valve’s Chet Faliszek.
Falisek revealed the news during an interview with VG247 recently, also touching on how marketing doesn’t play a big role when promoting their games.
“We just let the game speak for itself because the internet has made this thing where, you can’t pull the wool over people’s eyes any more. They’re going to know you’re hyping.”
“But when a game does really well at pre-release, they’re going to know that you’re not just talking a bunch of PR crap. I mean, the Left 4 Dead series has now sold over 12 million copies.”
If Valve doesn’t rely heavily on the marketing side that we have seen in the past pull in great profit for some mediocre games, they must be doing something great on the development side.
Great for fans as it will no doubt bring another Left 4 Dead game in the future, everyone is a winner! Do you play the Left 4 Dead series? Let us know in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
