Notch Won’t Certify Minecraft For Windows 8, Would Rather It Not Run On Windows 8 At All

Share And Comment

So this is an interesting turn of events as Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson has come out and pretty much said that he would rather Minecraft not run on Windows 8 at all than to bow down to Microsoft’s request.

In a series of tweets, Persson in his classic “pull no punches” way, laid out what he thought about the issue.

Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help “certify” minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.

I’d rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way..

So there you have it folks, as of now Minecraft will not be certified for Windows 8. While I respect Persson sticking to his principles, ultimately he’s a business man and he has customers. If enough of those customers start to complain I’m sure that eventually the highly addictive game will in fact be certified for Windows 8. As much as Notch wants to rage against the machine that is Microsoft, ultimately I don’t think he can ignore the fans if and when the time comes.

With that said, we want to hear from you. Hit up the comments and let us know what you think about Notch’s latest comments. Are you planning to upgrade to Windows 8 or are you fine running Minecraft as is on older platforms?
