Whilst we keep hearing that the gaming industry is on the decrease and that less and less people are gaming on traditional consoles and PC’s, the attendance at the big-name gaming conferences around the world just keeps on rising. Only last month we heard that Gamescom 2012 had a record number of attendees (with yours truly amongst them), and now Tokyo Game Show 2012 holds the new record for the most attended event in TGS history, with 223,753 visitors in total.
OK, so that number was only just over 1000 up on last year’s event, but it just goes to show that amongst hardcore gamers, events that show off the latest games still hold a lot of attention. The weekend days were predictably the busiest as they were the days that the general public were able to gain entry to the event. Saturday saw a massive 94,989 attendees, which was nearly four times as many as were present during each of the business only days of Thursday and Friday.
As well as confirming these impressive figures, the dates for next year’s TGS event have also been announced – it will take place from September 19th to September 22nd. If you enjoyed our on the spot Gamescom coverage this year then you haven’t seen anything yet, as your intrepid ZKG reporter will be in Japan for you in 2013, bringing you all the news from TGS, as well as blogging on the gaming scene as a whole in the crazy city of Tokyo – get excited!
