At last, the moment you guys know I have been waiting for, the Kingdom Hearts HD collection has finally been announced! Well, kind of…..
Although it has been a fairly sparse Tokyo Game Show for new game announcements this year, one highlight came today when Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be heading to PS3 next year. The compilation will not be a full collection of the Kingdom Hearts games rendered in luscious HD however, as it seems that Square Enix have plans to stagger the releases of the titles over at least two separate collections.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will contain an upscaled version of the final mix version of the original game (which was based on the western version of the title) along with Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories, which was a PlayStation 2 version of the title originally released on Gameboy Advance. If the games are being released chronologically, then it is possible that a future collection could well contain an HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 2 along with the DS game 358/2 Days, with perhaps a final collection compiling Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, although this is purely speculation.
No North American or European release of this package has yet been confirmed (and indeed Chain of Melodies on PS2 never made it to Europe at all), likewise it hasn’t been confirmed whether an XBOX 360 or Wii U version of the game will see the light of day. Hopefully we will get more news soon, but for now at least be happy knowing that the PS3 will see Kingdom Hearts in some form!
