Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Cancelled For Xbox 360 In Japan
Xbox 360 users in Japan who were looking forward to the action-packed title Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will unfortunately need to find another game to occupy their time, as Kojima Productions have dropped a severe bombshell by announcing that the game has been scrapped completely. The game will now only release on PlayStation 3 in the country, but still remains scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 outside of Japan.
The announcement was made through the Kojima Productions website and gave no official reason why the Japanese Xbox version has been cancelled.
“Due to various reasons, the launch of the Japanese version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be made only for PlayStation 3,” said the statement.
The questions will now turn to why this happened? One reason could be the sales figures for the Xbox 360 in Japan, over the years the console hasn’t had a strong showing in the country’s gaming market, with Sony and Nintendo taking most of the spoils. According to Joystiq, the console only shifted 875 copies last week compared to the PlayStation’s 12,433 copies, this alone could have been enough of an eye-opener for Konami to scrap the version.
If one was to look to the future, this might put the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes on the Xbox 360 in jeopardy also. If so, you could see only more and more PlayStation 3 consoles leaving the high street shelves in Japan, no complaints from Sony I expect.
