Insomniac’s “New” Game Revealed, Fuse

Remember when Insomniac left Sony behind and decided to forge a future in multi-format land? Wonder how they got on and what surprises they have in store for us? Then wonder no more as EA has announced a partnership with Insomniac that will result in a new title called Fuse, a 4-person co-op shooter. The news was originally scheduled to launch with an awesome trailer but some legal issues over a song used in the trailer delayed that.

The developers best known for Ratchet and Clank and Resistance have created a story driven action title which features the characters Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble and Naya Deveraux as they use alien technology and weapons to fight to protect mankind from a deadly energy source known as Fuse. The campaign allows players to level up both online and offline as they battle through various locations including underwater bases and mountain peaks. If the game looks a bit familiar, that’s probably because you’ve seen it before but back then it was called Overstrike.

“Fuse demonstrates what Insomniac does best: outlandish and gruesome weapons design, over-the-top action and a touch of humor,” said Insomniac Games’ Founder and CEO, Ted Price. “We’re especially excited to see how players utilize lethal teamwork by combining their Fuse weapons to stop a deadly arms race.”

“EA is honored to be working with world-renowned developer, Insomniac Games, to bring their first multiplatform release to players everywhere,” said Sinjin Bain, Vice President of EA Partners. “This studio is known for delivering high-quality, action-packed, and most importantly – fun – games. Fuse is on target to deliver that and more in March.”

As you can see the game looks fabulous, and has a real Gears of War vibe about it. Expect to hear a lot more about this one soon, prior to its (yes – another one!) March 2013 release on XBOX 360 and PS3.
