New Trademarks From Square Enix Indicate Upcoming Games

For many gamers, Square Enix has become a shadow of their former selves. The last few years particularly have been disappointing for fans of the RPG masters, with several average titles being released. Whilst we still pray and hope for a decent Final Fantasy game, any kind of announcement surrounding Kingdom Hearts 3, and yes – I will say again – a Kingdom Hearts HD Collection, some recently registered trademarks by the company may at least indicate some good news.

Amongst listings for Ultima Box and Agent 47 (likely for the Final Fantasy collection and Hitman respectively), trademarks have also been registered for Wizardlings and Circle of Mana. Wizardlings is likely to be the title that has been announced as under development by Square Enix’s North American branch, whereas Circle of Mana, well – sounds like a new Mana game.

Hitman: Absolution – coming soon and published by Square Enix

The Japanese action RPG series also known as Seiken Densetsu in Japan, has been popular ever since the original title, Secret of Mana, hit the SNES back in 1993 (although arguably there was a Gameboy game before that, marketed as a Final Fantasy title). Since then the series has seen release on formats like the DS, PS2 and even mobile phones in Japan. The last title to see release was Heroes of Mana, released five years ago on the DS. Bearing in mind that the majority of the previous games have been handheld titles, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Circle of Mana released on the 3DS, or even perhaps the Vita. What do you guys think? Is the time right for a new title in the Mana series?
