Before the release of Dead Island last year, Techland was a fairly unknown developer, really only remembered for their Call of Juarez franchise with its rapidly declining quality level. After embracing the zombies however the Polish outfit has gone from strength to strength, and are now beavering away on both a sequel to that game (which we told you about the other day and will be bringing you an eyes-on report from Gamescom soon), but also a brand new IP called Project Hell.
Described by the developers as a hack and slash game, it seems to have taken its gameplay cues from the sword and club fighting in Dead Island that was praised by many. “Our main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don’t expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight,” said designer and project manager Marcin “Kruq” Kruczkiewicz.
The title was originally conceived as a small mod project for Dead Island, but was later developed into a full-scale release. Techland says it will be released firstly on PC, and then on 360 and PS3 depending on its reception. The concept art above certainly looks impressive, so lets hope we get to check out the game soon.
