The Nintendo Direct conferences have become a popular way for the company to make announcements and show off new games over the last year or so, whether they are intended for US, European or Japanese audiences. The latest web video has taken the opportunity to tell fans about a new Professor Layton game for the 3DS, which could potentially be the last game in the series.
The plot is set a year after the last 3DS game, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and concerns the good Prof being sent a letter from someone making claims of having discovered a living mummy…. Spooky stuff.
The game is due for release in Japan next year, with western countries probably getting it 12-18 months after that if previous games are anything to go by. Although it will be the last game starring Hershel Layton, it may not be the last title in the Layton series. That sounds like a strange thing to say but it is possible a new star will take center stage or possibly just a reference to the forthcoming Ace Attorney VS Professor Layton game. In the meantime check out the video below (which is in Japanese but the video gives you the idea) and let us know what you think.
