Update: We have updated this post with the extended trailer.
Konami and Hideo Kojima have released the debut trailer for the recently announced Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. This video was done from a PC and while a PC release hasn’t been confirmed it could be assumed. With that said, the trailer does end with PS3 and Xbox 360 logos implying that it will release for those platforms. Kojima also went out of his way to point out that this is NOT Metal Gear Solid 5, but rather a prologue. He also confirmed that he is personally creating Ground Zeroes, vice only overseeing the game like with Metal Gear Solid Revengeance.
Kojima has pointed out that nearby APCs and helicopters can be hijacked and driven if so desired. Kojima also showed that you can deploy a flare “at any time” to call in a friendly helicopter — it will let you fly between missions, and even to other countries. He even confirmed that the player can customize the music played by the helicopter, which in the demo blared out Ride of the Valkyries.
Now I’ll admit that the sheer graphical quality of this video could be deceiving because it simply can’t look that good on either 360 or PS3, I’m damn sure it will look very, very good and that to me raises the question of why we need new consoles again? The game is running on Kojima’s Fox Engine and looks great. It makes you wonder if developers are just using the hardware limitations as an excuse to not push themselves harder to get everything out of the current generation. Kojima loves technology but you haven’t seen him out here saying we need new consoles. Maybe its all point of view. Anyway, enough of me talking, check the debut trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and be amazed. Oh yeah and if your computer will support it, do yourself a favor and bump the quality of to 1080p.
