Skyrim: Dawnguard On PlayStation 3 May Never Happen

While gamers on the Xbox 360 and PC roam the lands of Skyrim soaking up the sun or hiding from it, completing many tasks and quests expansion ‘Dawnguard’ has bestowed upon them, PlayStation 3 gamers are still yet to receive the DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and now it seems they might be left out in the cold. Dawnguard released on Xbox 360 on June 26 and on August 2 on PC with almost no problems, but hasn’t landed on Sony’s console yet with developer Bethesda stating that, “Dawnguard’s performance on PS3 is unsatisfactory.”

PlayStation 3 gamers still yet to experience Dawnguard.

It seems the light at the end of the tunnel may never come for PlayStation 3 gamers however, with Bethesda’s Global Community Lead taking to the Bethesda forums recently to give PS3 gamers some less than welcomed news. The post in full read:

Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard’s status for PS3.

It’s been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we’re at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

If Bethesda and Sony don’t get Dawnguard off its blocks and out to PlayStation 3 gamers quickly, the backlash could be more than the developer can handle, with many gamers feeling cheated out of their money. Hopefully news on the subject in the future will be a bit brighter than the DLC’s dark storyline.

When not fighting crime, I dabble in the art of online journalism. Alright, maybe it's not as exciting as headbutting everyday felons like a modern Bruce Wayne, but I need something that doesn't involve bludgeoning something. Get my kicks playing on a fat 80gb PS3, really need an upgrade......and a shave.
