The gaming retailer GAME has gone through a very turbulent year, with the company going into administration and closing shops in many countries, bad news is definitely in abundance for the store chain. Well it seems it’s got worse for the company, with them telling GamesIndustry.biz recently that they will be shutting their flagship Oxford Street store on September 8th, 2012 – with staff being temporarily relocated to other GAME outlets across London.
This might spark rumors that the company will start closing more stores, but GAME has stated that the closure of the Oxford Street store was “due to the expiration of the lease.”
“Our West End customers can visit our concession in Hamleys on Regent Street, our flagship store in Westfield Stratford, or our websites at http://www.game.co.uk or http://www.gamestation.co.uk. We also have stores in Hammersmith, Surrey Quays, and Westfield White City”, said the retailer.
When asked would they be opening another store in the Oxford Street Area, they replied, “We’re actively looking at other retail options in the West End, and the Oxford Street team have been temporarily relocated to other stores across London and the South East.”
With the company not updating the lease, they could be looking for a smaller retail outlet for the store, which backs up the growing concerns that the gaming retail sector is being affected greatly by the online buying options gamers now have.
