As one of the few PlayStation exclusive titles due this Holiday season, anticipation for PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is starting to hit fever pitch. Sony is expected to focus very much on the game during Gamescom this year, both in their announcement of a killer cross buy deal and in showing off the game itself to attendees. We will of course be on hand to bring you our own impressions (the hell we go through for you guys…), but in the meantime here are some more character announcements, with a few surprises in store.
Ratchet and Clank are the first new fighters, and probably about as predictable as they come. We cant wait to see some of the crazy weaponry the duo are famed for however. Sackboy is next and once more is a fighter many would have been expected as he (or she?) is probably the most well-known of Sony’s modern mascots. As awesome as it would be to play as your own personalised Sackboy within the game, that particular feature has yet to be announced.
The two last characters announced during Gamescom are a little bit more of a surprise; Spike from the PSone Ape Escape series, and Dante from Capcom’s Devil May Cry. This is the new improved Dante from the reboot of the series however, so look out for some fanboy displeasure!
What do you guys make of the new additions? Personally I think it’s still all about Drake, but I’m willing to be persuaded. A new fighting stage has also been confirmed, being based on the section of Uncharted 3 you will all remember from being thrown out of a plane! It appears that some elements of Bioshock: Infinite will also put in an appearance during the stage itself.
Some less fantastic news now, as it appears the US release of the game has been put back a month from its hoped-for October launch. According to the Official PlayStation Blog, the game will now launch worldwide on November 20th although officially SuperBot Entertainment will only say the release date is TBC. Either way we should all be battling each other well in time for Christmas.
