Battlefield Series Celebrates 10 Years In The Gaming Industry
Some games live on in our memory long after they end, some make an impact from their inception, however some don’t seem to stop at all and bulldoze on to new heights with each passing year. The Battlefield franchise has a long-standing history with gamers, across many platforms the series has established a following like no other, so it was fitting for DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson to celebrate the series’ tenth-year anniversary and twentieth year at DICE at GDC Europe today.
The game is undoubtedly the developer’s core franchise and has produced hit after hit for the online masses, with the series serving more than 50 million players worldwide since the series was created. It isn’t a case of ”Ok … I’m bored” from the developer though, with Troedsson saying they’re still “in love” with the “core franchise.” Maybe not all of the Battlefield titles released have shown up well in sales, but 2011 has proved landmark for the series, with current title Battlefield 3 shipping over 12 million copies since last October, so yeah … not too shabby.
With Battlefield 4 coming in late 2013, you can only see developer DICE and the Battlefield series going upwards and onwards. Is anybody else hoping for an anniversary edition? Cause I sure hell am!
