Sonic & Sega All-Stars racing was a success when it launched across several platforms a few years back – with outrun style mechanics fusing well to the Mario Kart inspired mascot racing action (Oh, and you got to control Shenmue’s Ryo in a forklift truck as well which was a bonus). Now Sega has confirmed that the games follow-up, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, will see a grand total of 29 characters involved.
Unfortunately, all 29 characters will not be playable for every gamer. As stated in the Sega forums, “Over all the different platforms, this totals up to 29 actual playable choices. But that doesn’t mean that there are 29 playable choices in all platforms (in fact no single platform has all 29). Some drop down to the low 20’s, some instead have high 20’s.”
Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett also told Sonic fans that, “Some platforms have characters which are specific to that platform. I’m not going to say which, that’s part of the fun of the reveals. Some are Sega characters, some are not.”
That mention of non-Sega characters has us thinking what other racers could be involved. Would it be too much to hope for Mario, considering that the pair have hung up their boxing gloves recently to take part on several Olympic Games together? Would a potential Wii U version have several Nintendo characters or would that detract from any future Mario Kart game? Let us know your thoughts.
