During the recent Electronic Arts Q1 FY13 earnings call, which gave the statistics and profit since the release of Battlefield Premium, the publisher decided quite calmly to announce a window for the release of the much-anticipated ‘Battlefield 4’. According to gaming site VideoGamer, Electronic arts is “aiming” for a release window between April 2013 and March 2014. That said, given the previous release dates for Battlefield and Medal of Honor games, October 2013 would fit nicely as the best launch date.
Details have been scarce since the premature announcement of Battlefield 4. A leak offering a Beta spot for the game from pre-ordering Medal of Honor: Warfighter showed up on EA’s digital service Origin, and has had gamers in a whirlwind of late. All in all, Electronic Arts is putting together a smart marketing startegy – cashing in on the hype of Battlefield to help Warfighter inch in those extra sales. As for the Beta, we can expect it in Fall 2013, so get pre-ordering now if you want access.
It will be interesting to see if Battlefield 4 can make the same impact as Battlefield 3, especially if it can push the frostbite 2.0 engine to the limit. With many fans not happy with the sudden change in-game rotation (Battlefield: Bad Company 3 for instance), EA will have to get it right or risk falling flat on their face in embarrassment.
