With the recent news that DICE would be making Battlefield 4 their next shooter when it drops presumably in late 2013, lots of folks were excited but not as many as you might expect. There seems to be a large contingent of people that feel like DICE and EA got it wrong and the next Battlefield game should have in fact been Bad Company 3 and not Battlefield 4.
Personally, I think that Bad Company as a franchise is highly underrated, I enjoyed both Battlefield: Bad Company and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 thoroughly and would say that personally I’m in the crowd that would have liked to have seen Battlefield: Bad Company 3 before Battlefield 4. The Bad Company franchise has all the awesome first person shooter action that you find in the main Battlefield franchise but it has humor and character that its big brother just doesn’t have.
I understand that EA wants to compete with Call Of Duty and Bad Company really isn’t the franchise to do that. Bad Company is in a class all its own, with an engaging story, solid single player gameplay and some over the top multiplayer action. In Bad Company’s multiplayer action, everything was destructible, I’m talking bringing entire buildings to the ground on top of your enemies. There was a cost to this of course, at the end of some matches there was just really nothing left to hide behind which created some interesting scenarios by themselves, but none the less it was fun.
I liked Battlefield 3 don’t get me wrong, but if you played Bad Company then you will understand what’s missing. I know folks will be split on this one, but I think there’s an easy solution, make both of them. The audience for the games is unique enough and as long as you didn’t drop them near each other I think they could be a hell of a one two punch. I mean imagine Bad Company opening the year and Battlefield closing it, that would really get Activision’s attention. Medal Of Honor was good and I think Warfighter will be solid but its multiplayer just didn’t have the staying power the last time around.
But alas enough from me, we want to hear from you. Are you happy that DICE decided to do Battlefield 4 or would you have preferred to see Battlefield: Bad Company 3? Hit up the comments and vote in our poll.
