Epic’s Fortnite Will Be First Game To Use Unreal Engine 4

We are already starting to hear more and more about Unreal Engine 4, before any game has so far been announced that utilizes it. The time has come however for UE4 to stop being something people just talk about, and to actually see it in action, with the first title to use it being Fortnite by Epic Games themselves.

The game was announced during Comic Con by producer Tanya Jessen and was described as a sandbox survival game inspired in a way by the success of Minecraft. The prototype version shown was running on the older Unreal Engine 3. Jessen said about the gameplay; “Building is really the core of the game, everything you find allows you to build and improve your structure.”

Epic head honcho Cliff Bleszinski then confirmed that Fortnite would be a PC exclusive before showing screenshots of the game running on Unreal Engine 4. It uses a cartoony type art style which works well with the zombie-type bad guys in the game called The Husk.

The release date and pricing structure of the game is still unknown, but Epic did say they wanted to release as soon as possible. What do you guys make of the UE4 powered graphics? Would you be looking forward to playing this game, perhaps on the next-gen of consoles if Epic changed their minds and brought it to consoles?
