News on Modern Warfare 2 classic map “Terminal” making its way into Modern Warfare 3 for free started off as just a rumor, then made its way up the ladder to being confirmed by developer Infinity Ward and still staying free. Well now fans of the map will be happy to hear that Terminal has a release date and is still, you guessed it, free! According to Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, Mark Rubin, Xbox 360 users will get first dibs of Terminal, with other platforms playing the waiting games as usual.
Rubin made the announcement over Twitter, saying that Terminal went into certification at Microsoft on July 2 and that the classic map will land for Xbox Elite Premium subscribers on July 17, with non-elite Xbox users getting it a day later. Xbox users pick up the map first because of the standing exclusive content contract Activision has with Microsoft, meaning DLC released for the game will hit Xbox first with other platforms having to wait at least 30 days to pick it up, even if the content isn’t apart of the known DLC schedule.
Rubin also stated on Twitter that no dates have been set for when it will be available to PlayStation and PC users, past DLC usually landed on other platforms 30 days after the Xbox release, so August 17 could be the best bet. Rubin also cleared up any confusion around the map affecting the current content schedule for Modern Warfare 3, “Terminal is a fan favorite map that we are giving away for FREE. It’s not a part of the content calendar so isn’t one of the maps shown. Plus the content calendar is wrong at the moment anyways. There is more coming than what’s posted there.”
This will be the second game in a row Infinity Ward will bring back previous maps from the dead for their currently released title. I wonder if this will become a new trend for the franchise? What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
