Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last Of Us’ is causing quite the stir around the gaming industry since it’s announcement back in December, even more so since the recent E3 demo that blew most of the world’s socks off. The upcoming post-apocalyptic survival title is heavy on the single player side, like a lot of Naughty Dog titles, so excitement hit the roof when it was announced that The Last Of Us will feature multiplayer, but not in the shape of Co-op campaign.
Naughty Dog told Gaming Examiner that Co-op hasn’t been binned completely, but wont be the main part of the online features, with the developer saying, “We’re not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign.” Co-op worked well with other Naughty Dog hit ‘Uncharted’, with the game also focusing more on the single-player aspect than online duties, yet still developed a solid multiplayer experience. With The Last Of Us featuring two main protagonists, co-op would make sense and if added would make for an experience worth the cash from our lined pockets.
So what will the multiplayer consist of? We don’t know, Naughty Dog has kept tight-lipped about the online features unfortunately. We could see a zombie survival type mode, or the normal team deathmatch — free-for-all playlists, only time will tell. They did however let slip that even though the title will have a storyline with many different paths, the ending will be the same for everyone who buys the game, to maintain a clearly defined narrative arc.
The Last Of Us is set to release sometime next year exclusively for PlayStation 3, whatever the multiplayer situation is, it promises to be a good all-rounded effort from Naughty Dog. Let us know in the comment section what kind of multiplayer you would like to see in upcoming title.
