2K Sports has revealed that the NBA 2K13 cover will feature not one but three NBA Superstars. On the cover is the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant, Los Angeles Clippers’ Blake Griffin and the Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose.
“There are many young superstars in today’s NBA, but we’ve selected three incredible athletes for the cover of NBA 2K13 that represent the NBA well,” concluded Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “It’s clear to us that Blake, Derrick and Kevin are the most deserving guys to inherit the NBA 2K cover from Jordan, Magic and Bird.” And that is where I don’t agree. I mean come on, love him or hate him, Lebron James is the best basketball player on the planet and even if the Miami Heat hadn’t won the championship he would deserve the cover by himself over any of these three guys. If it had to be three stars on the cover, there’s no way Blake Griffin beats LBJ.
To be honest, I could probably name a couple of young guys I would put on this list above him and that is no knock to him because he is a great young player but he’s not of the caliber of the other two. KD is a three time scoring champ and D-Rose is a former MVP, the only thing of real significance Blake has done is win ROY. Not even in the same category as the other two honors. He has freakish athleticism, but he needs to learn to play better defense, expand his offensive repertoire around the basket, and become consistent with the 15 to 18 foot jumper.
Hopefully 2K Sports does a Collector’s Edition featuring Lebron or something. Anyway, just in case you forgot, NBA 2K13 will be available on October 2, 2012 in North America and October 5, 2012 internationally. The Wii U version of the title will be available during the holiday season.
