Kaz Hirai Steps Down As Sony Computer Entertainment Board Chairman

It has been announced this morning that Kaz Hirai has stepped down from his role as chairman and representative chairman of the Sony Computer Entertainment Board, although he will still be a part of the board itself in a part-time capacity.

Hirai took on the role of Sony Corporation CEO on April 1st and presumably now has less time available to him to allow him the luxury of being the head of the board responsible for the PlayStation brand. This move effectively ends Hirai’s full-time association with the PlayStation product although he will be keen to keep informed on gaming matters as CEO of the entire company.

It was also reported that Howard Stringer has retired from the part-time role he had on the SCE board.
