BioWare has announced that the new, extended ending for Mass Effect 3 “Extended Cut” will be available to download for free starting this Tuesday, June 26 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. As has always been stated, “Extended Cut” does NOT fundamentally change the endings in the original game, it simply expands on the meaning of the original endings, and reveals greater detail on the impact of player decisions.”

The extended ending adds additional scenes and epilogue sequences. “It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.” [SPOILER ALERT] for those that have yet to finish the game, if you haven’t completed it yet this will give away info on the ending.

How to play it?

[SPOILERS] To experience the Extended Cut, load a save game from before the attack on the Cerberus Base and play through to the end of the game. The Extended Cut endings will differ depending on choices made throughout the Mass Effect series, so multiple playthroughs with a variety of different decisions will be required to experience the variety of possibilities offered by the new content.

To go along with this, Bioware also published a full FAQ which you can check out here. While this extension still won’t satisfy all players, this is what we get. I wonder how players are going to fell about having to play the end of the game again to have the DLC work, its not a whole lot of extra game but depending on how frustrated you are at this point it might still be too much. For those of you that want to learn a bit more about what the Mass Effect 3 team went through during the making of “Extended Cut” you can listen to an audio interview they released to accompany this news below.
