Claude Giroux Announced As Fan-Selected NHL 13 Cover Athlete [VIDEO]

After many (read: millions) votes had been cast to determine the cover star of NHL 13, the winner was revealed to be the Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux. The news was announced during the live broadcast of the 2012 NHL Awards with Giroux narrowly beating Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne in the first ever EA Sports NHL Cover Vote Campaign. The winning margin was less than one percent and was the closest matchup of the whole campaign.

This is the first time for an NHL game that the cover athlete has been chosen by the fans

Between March 29 and June 4, nearly 26 million votes were cast on NHL.com with 2 million of those cast in the final alone. Flyers forward Claude Giroux was obviously delighted with the result and said “The support fans have given me throughout the campaign has been unbelievable. I am very excited to be on the cover of NHL 13 and I want to thank everyone who campaigned and voted for me — especially my teammates, the Flyers organization, and of course all the NHL fans who voted and tweeted.”

So now we know who the cover star is going to be and what the various pre-order offers are, all we can really do is look forward to the release of NHL 13 on September 11, 2012 in North America and September 14, 2012 in Europe.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. Sports games are my favorite but I still wait for the day that a decent rugby league game hits the PS3. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
