THQ Confirms Exclusive WWE License Through 2017, Franchise Not Going Anywhere

Rumors broke yesterday that seemed to suggest that the recent departures of WWE Games Community Manager Marcus Stephenson and Art Director B. Chambers could be signaling that THQ was working on their final WWE game. That combined with the fact that the company recently sold its UFC license to EA further turned up the volume on the rumor. Turns out that’s not true at all according to an official response received by Ripten. THQ clarified the issue by saying:

We are extremely pleased with our relationship with the WWE, and have an exclusive license for the brand through 2017. Our recent videogame cover reveal for WWE ’13 on Monday Night Raw airing May 28, as well as WWE Superstar Sheamus’ recent appearance at E3 showcase examples of how well we are working collaboratively with the WWE.

So it seems as if this one was just that as a recent SEC filing by THQ does indeed show the extension of the original agreement. I’m still waiting for THQ to really give me something innovative in their yearly wrestling title though, every year it gets a little better but I feel like they have the talent to be doing much more. Guess we will have another 5 years to see what they can do.

WWE ’13 is currently scheduled to release on October 30th for PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.
