Wii U Will Support The Free To Play Model Says Iwata
Wii U will support microtransactions and the free to play model, says Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.
The global president stated as such during a recent Q&A posted on Nintendo’s website.
“With respect to the Wii U system, when we began working on it, one of our goals was to have a variety of purchase options and additional e-commerce options available at its launch,”,Iwata said. “And because of that, we have prepared a Digital Rights Management system. We have designed the system from a technical standpoint to allow developers to freely take advantage of things like free to play and micro transactions.”
Of course, this free to play stuff certainly smells of something that Nintendo won’t support themselves, but will vaguely leave available for third-parties. Iwata further said that Nintendo had no current interest in the matter, but like any good man of business, stated that Nintendo “wont rule out the possibility.”
Wii U hits stores later this year.
