Crytek Says TimeSplitters 4 Could Still Happen But Wouldn’t Be A Full Retail Release

The TimeSplitters franchise was widely loved by gaming fans and often considered a game that you simply must own but there has not been a release in the series’ since 2005. A fourth installment was in development although it got put on hold in August 2009 with nothing really mentioned about the game apart from the odd bit here and there. Some interesting comments from Crytek could be indicating that the series might get back on track at some point.

Who wouldn't want to play this?

Crytek’s chief executive, Cevat Yerli said that even though the company is not working on the series at the moment, he would like them to get back to it eventually but not as a full retail release. Speaking to CVG he said: “Look, I wish we were working on it. I will say that. The thing with TimeSplitters is, if we made a sequel to TimeSplitters, nobody would accept this apart from some fans, and we don’t know how big the fan community is unfortunately. We don’t want to design this as a packaged goods game that launches on a console, and even if we wanted to I don’t think publishers would like the idea.”

He does suggest the idea of the game appearing on G-Face or being financed by the crowd funding website Kickstarter but he has concerns whether it is right for a company of Crytek’s size to call on fan funding. So put the game in the ‘maybe’ pile for now but nevertheless you should keep your fingers crossed as it looks like we will be getting that fourth TimeSplitters installment eventually.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. I'm just glad that there are decent rugby games on the PS3 now after years of nothing. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
