Wii Fit U To Utilize Pedometer Accessory

We all know that Nintendo loves their peripherals, and although the vitality sensor appears to have bitten the dust, the Nintendo conference did reveal one further device to add to our pile of plastic tat, the Wii Fit U Pedometer.

As one of the big features of the new Wii Fit game is to count your calories burnt as some kind of target based system, the title also realizes that not all of the exercise you do each day will be done in front of your TV.

With that in mind, the Pedometer will track your total steps, altitude and calories burnt and also allow you to update your Wii Fit U profile with this information by uploading it via the infrared port on the Wii U Gamepad. It seems like a sensible addition and should contribute to making Wii Fit U more of a complete fitness package, although its currently unknown if it will ship with the game or whether the 3DS pedometer will be able to upload data in the same way.
