Paramount Pictures and NAMCO BANDAI have given Star Trek fans a treat by revealing recently at E3, the key villains and voice actors to feature in the upcoming Star Trek Video Game. The game is inspired by J.J. Abrams Star Trek film reboot and will introduce legendary lizard-like race known in Trek lore as “The Gorn” as the main villain role for the game set for release in early 2013.
The co-op based game will see best buds Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock scour the galaxy trying to stop the Gorn from conquering the universe. They also revealed the voice actors that will lend their talents to the Digital Extremes developed game. Actors of the feature film, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will voice Kirk and Spock and Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin will voice their respective characters also.
Brian Miller, Senior Vice President at Paramount Pictures and Lead Game Producer had this to say about the addition of The Gorn into the game.
The Gorn are among the most iconic villains in the Star Trek universe and their role in this game certainly lives up to that persona. Kirk and Spock find themselves in an incredibly challenging amount of mayhem as they face the Gorn throughout the game.
The Gorn will range in size and abilities, Gorn Rushers will be enemies small infantry, who you will meet often, while Gorn Warriors and the massive Gorn Brutes, offer a more serious direct threat. If the size doesn’t scare you, their ability to infect their foes with venom that can poison, cause hallucinations, and even kill characters will. Carlson Choi, VP of Marketing at NAMCO BANDAI shared why it was imperative to pick the right villain for Star Trek:
Great villains give our favorite characters a chance to become heroes in the process of attempting to eliminate a powerful threat, and Star Trek fans have been eagerly anticipating the moment when the antagonists of the game would be revealed. This is one of those moments and we couldn’t be more excited to give gamers a glimpse at the challenges that lie ahead for Kirk and Spock.
The game is being developed by Ontario-based developer Digital Extremes (Bioshock 2, Unreal Tournament, Dark Sector, The Darkness II) and will have Paramount watching them ever step of the way. Star Trek will release on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC in early 2013, so mark those calenders. Live long and Prosper ladies and gentlemen.
