One thing that Vita owners have been crying out for since the release of the handheld back in February, is PSone classics. Highlighted as a selling point for the machine in pre-launch hype, the ability to play games from the PlayStation catalog of yesteryear is currently only provided through remote play, with all of the disadvantages that brings like lag and lack of portability.
During their conference yesterday, Sony confirmed that the much desired update is indeed happening very soon and they went as far as to confirm just a few titles that will be playable including Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil: Directors Cut.
Whether Vita owners will have access to every PSone game available from PSN is unknown, or it could be that certain titles have to be made compatible in a similar way to the PSP game library. Neither do we have a launch date yet, but rest assured Sony will do everything to ensure this happens sooner rather than later.
