A console is judged by what games grace it, some go multi-platform and get worldwide acclaim, while others stay exclusive to one console and sell millions without even considering porting to other hardware. The God Of War franchise has shifted over 22 million copies worldwide, since its first release back in 2005.
The God Of War franchise isn’t grounded to its own game though, other games like Mortal Kombat, Little Big Planet and the recently announced PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale, see the spartan warrior Kratos making an appearance. The game has also been busy picking up a range of awards over the years, collecting many E3 best of show awards, Best Action Game Award (given at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards), numerous Golden Joystick Awards, G-Phoria Awards, and many more.
Shannon Studstill, Sr. Director of Product Development, Sony Santa Monica Studio, commented on the milestone:
We at Sony Santa Monica Studios thrive on delivering fantastic gaming experiences to the community and to our fans across the world. We are extremely proud to have hit this incredible milestone, and owe a large part of it to our fans for all of their support throughout these years.
After seeing the preview for God of War: Ascension at Sony’s E3 press conference last night, you can take an educated guess that God of War sales are going to rise even faster when the game releases in 2013. I know I will be picking up a copy, will you? Let us know in the comments.
