Although early indications were that Nintendo will be focussing solely on their new console during E3, if current rumors are to be believed the Wii U wont be the only piece of Nintendo hardware making headlines. Japanese newspaper Nikkei is today reporting that Nintendo is preparing to unveil a new, larger version of the Nintendo 3DS, apparently with a 4.3” main screen which will be 50% larger than the one on the current model.
At present it isn’t clear where they have obtained their information but this is a respected newspaper so we fully expect to see the new model become a reality over the next few days, even if it isn’t mentioned during the Nintendo conference tomorrow, which Satoru Iwata has claimed will be all about the Wii U.
There is no mention of whether this ‘3DS XL’ will contain either a larger battery or second circle pad which are two of the most requested additions, however the extra size afforded by the larger screen and the fact that the touch screen surely has to stay the same size to be compatible with earlier games means there will be much more available space in the design to hopefully incorporate both of these additions.
What do you guys think of this rumor? Amazingly I just bought a 3DS last week after trading my Vita (a decision I will tell you all about when the craziness of E3 dies down) so if this does indeed become a reality I will be pretty unhappy, even if a trade-in deal seems likely! Hopefully we will bring you some more news on this story tomorrow.
