Anybody hoping for Diablo III to hop on over to the PlayStation 3 might be in luck, as German retailer Redcoon has listed the game for a 2012 release on the platform. E3 has already filled many with excitement of things to come and we haven’t even seen Sony’s E3 press conference yet, where a console port of Diablo III might become reality for PS3 users.
Diablo III had a bit of a rocky start after release, with many gamers of the PC version complaining of severe server issues among other problems, but the game still managed to sell over 6.3 million units, so a console port makes sense. The listing also says that the PS3 release “will benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will give some exciting new features for the player.”
A console version of Diablo III was heavily rumored over the past month, with Blizzard saying the were open to the idea and Blizzard head, Paul Sams saying recently:
We think that the way we built it for the PC may need some tweaking, but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console.
I don’t see why Blizzard wouldn’t bring the game to the console gamers, many people, myself included, wouldn’t mind hacking and slashing through dungeons on the PS3. Hopefully the Sony E3 press conference will clear the air, even if a release date of 2012 might be too generous, at least an announcement will excite fans of the series.
We will make sure to let you know as soon as any information comes through. Would you play a console port of Diablo III? Let us know in the comments.
