I know everyone keeps harping on about there being nothing to play on the Vita, but Sony keeps promising that exciting things are on the way, which we will no doubt see more of during E3. If you can’t wait that long to have something to do with your sexy black fingerprint magnet though, how about some new apps on their way very soon?
Probably the most interesting is something called Travel Bug, which tries to use the confusing Near in a new and original way. The app is a kind of game which sees you travelling around with an AR buddy in the shape of, you guessed it – a bug. The app will set challenges to reach certain destinations before your friends and use the Near functionality to prove that you and your insect pal got there first. You can also place the character in your photos and track your progress across national and international maps.
The second app is called Ecolibrium, and will perhaps appeal more to the younger Vita demographic (is there one?) who love their Pokemon. A mixture of the Nintendo classic with old school Tamagotchi and new-school touch screen technology, the game allows you to rear made-up animals and look after them, feed them and trade them with friends, again using Near.
Lastly we are also getting a music program called Imagininstruments, which sees you creating music using a number of different instruments using the Vita’s different input methods and then sharing them. These more fun oriented apps join the recently announced YouTube app for Vita and are certainly a step in the right direction as far as using Near for interesting new applications. Will you guys be downloading them?
