Third-person shooter Max Payne 3 has shown up strong in sales since it’s release one week ago. The game which is developed by Rockstar Games, managed to shift 3 million copies, according to a recent earnings report by Take-Two Interactive. Not to shabby for a sequel nearly 10 years after the previous title Max Payne 2.
Max Payne 3 sees Max make camp in São Paulo Brazil as a bodyguard for a wealthy family and like every Max Payne game, everything goes down the toilet and you have to shoot yourself out of every situation. With very strong reviews across the media, Strauss Zelnick, chairman and chief executive of Take-Two, stated that the game is shaping up to be another big hit for Take-Two’s Rockstar Games division. Rockstar Games is known for their strong showing in the market, it’s usually down to their expertise at developing games, but also their talent in the marketing department.
Max Payne 3 is also set for a bucket load of DLC between now and Autumn. The first DLC to land will be “Local Justice Map Pack” next month, then followed by the “Disorganized Crime Map Pack,” the “Deathmatch Made in Heaven Mode Pack,” the “Hostage Negotiation Map Pack” and the “New York Minute Co-Op Pack” all set for release in and around the Summer. We can then expect the “Painful Memories Map Pack” and the “Trickle Down Economics Map Pack” sometime in the Fall.
Don’t expect to see that massive 3 million number slow down anytime soon, with news of the PC version of the game landing on store shelves June 1st, the only way sales can go is up. Along with the money made from future DLC’s, Max Payne 3 has turned out to be quite a gem for Rockstar and Take-Two.
