No Dead Island 2 In Development Says Deep Silver

Publisher Deep Silver has squashed reports that a potential sequel to the 2011 hit Dead Islandis in development.

Dead Island, which was developed by Techland, wasn't well received by critics and was hampered by endless bugs post release. Given such a well-oiled melee system, the game still went on to sell over 3 million copies for Deep Silver.

Rumors say Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager is already taking a stab at the survival horror franchise. Even though Deep Silver has made it clear no sequel is in development, they did not rule out a possible release in the future. Development director for the publisher, Guido Eickmeyer told IGN recently:

We are neither working with Yager on Dead Island 2 nor do we have any contractual agreement with Yager at this point. Yager and Deep Silver do have a very close relationship, based on Personal and professional connections between the parties. There is a legitimate chance that we will at, at some point, work together on a title. I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise.

This isn’t the first set of rumors about a possible sequel to hit the web, with former developers Techland filing a trademark for ‘Dead World’ in the United States, which led everyone to speculate they were developing and the series would take the story out of the island of Banoi.

When not fighting crime, I dabble in the art of online journalism. Alright, maybe it's not as exciting as headbutting everyday felons like a modern Bruce Wayne, but I need something that doesn't involve bludgeoning something. Get my kicks playing on a fat 80gb PS3, really need an upgrade......and a shave.
