New “The Last Of Us” Trailer Surfaces And Turns The Sky Grey

Since the reveal trailer for The Last Of Us debuted at VGA’s six months ago, not much about the game has surfaced. Luckily a new trailer titled “The Sky Has Turned Grey” has been released by Naughty Dog, which gives us more insight into the post-apocalyptic zombie title.

When the trailer starts, the first thing that catches the eye is that Ellie, one of the games main protagonists, has undergone some changes since the reveal trailer. Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog told gaming site IGN:

After delving further into the game’s narrative over the past few months, we decided to modify Ellie’s model to better reflect Ashley’s personality, and also resemble a slightly younger teen more fitting to the story.

Other than the facial change of Ellie, not much has changed. Both Joel and Ellie are still in a wasteland, as the trailer shows them driving through what remains of downtown Pittsburg to Hank Williams’ wistful ballad “Alone and Forsaken”. It takes a turn for the worse when a man appears that is apparently in dire need of help, but Joel, described by voice actor Troy Baker as a anti-hero, asks Ellie to fasten her seat belt as he proceeds to drive full speed at the unknown man he doesn’t believe to be hurt.

Joel, wasting no time in his decision, portrays a man who might be used to the everyday encounters with bandits as a handful of men begin to throw whatever they can at the games two heroes. Both thinking they made it to safety after running one of the bandits down, they are then bulldozed in the side by a bus, veering them through a shop window, when the trailer suddenly comes to an untimely end.

A difference from this trailer was the complete absence of zombie-like creatures we first saw in the reveal trailer, maybe implying that there is a larger part for humans to play in the story. Hopefully Naughty Dog’s newest IP makes its way to E3 this June and shed some more information and maybe some gameplay for the masses to see.

When not fighting crime, I dabble in the art of online journalism. Alright, maybe it's not as exciting as headbutting everyday felons like a modern Bruce Wayne, but I need something that doesn't involve bludgeoning something. Get my kicks playing on a fat 80gb PS3, really need an upgrade......and a shave.
