Developer THQ announced recently during an investor conference, that Darksiders II, which is being developed by Vigil Games, will be landing in shops August 14th in North America. Those who live in Europe will have to wait a little longer though, with release being set for August 17th.
Darksiders II follows the exploits of Death, one of the four horseman of the Apocalypse, in a weaving tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game. The epic journey propels Death through various light and dark realms as he tries to redeem his brother War, the horseman that was blamed for prematurely starting the Apocalypse in the previous game.
A previous date of July 26th was pushed back by the publisher, stating ”mid-August is a more favorable release window.” When asked why it was pushed back to August, CEO Brian Farrell replied to the previous delay as a “Demonstration of [THQ's] Commitment to quality.”
With pre-order sales five times that of the first game, THQ is looking to push as many units out as possible. With a marketing campaign that is twice the cost of the previous title.
With THQ going through a rough patch as of late, they need a big game to counteract the $239.9 million the company lost during the fiscal year. Either way, Darksiders II is on track to outsell the first in the series and maybe recoup some of damaging losses THQ has suffered.
