THQ has announced that a sequel to strategy game Company of Heroes is set to hit the PC early next year. The first title was extremely well received when it was released in 2006, going on to win numerous awards and become possibly one of the most acclaimed strategy titles ever. Its focus on small units under direct control of the player was a step away from the mass armies of other tactical games, and led developer Relic Entertainment to adapt the system for the equally popular Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2.
Company of Heroes 2 will focus its narrative on the Eastern front in comparison with its predecessor. Gamers will take on the might of the German army in and around the snowy wastes of Russia and amongst the ruins of Moscow. The game will be powered by the Essence 3.0 Engine and should prove to be a graphical showcase as well as mentally taxing.
Greg Wilson, Producer at Relic Entertainment told the press, “Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”
